Import Specialist
This role is located in Brazil and operates directly for Meelunie, as part of our global operations headquartered in Amsterdam.
About Meelunie
Meelunie is a global supplier of agricultural ingredients—specializing in plant-based starches, proteins, and sweeteners for food, feed, and industrial applications. Headquartered in Amsterdam, our global footprint spans offices across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
As we scale our operations via Meelunie Do Brasil, we are expanding our local footprint to support key global accounts and build out our long-term distribution network across the region.
Position Overview
We are seeking an autonomous, proactive Import Specialist to take full operational ownership of our inbound container shipments into Brazil.
Reporting directly to global logistics leadership, you will oversee the complete ocean import lifecycle: from origin booking to customs release and final warehouse arrival. Because you will be joining a lean local setup supported by external providers, success in this role requires high self-reliance, rigorous attention to regulatory deadlines, and a drive to solve delays before they happen.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor container shipments end-to-end immediately post-departure, tracking carrier schedules, container positions, and updated ETAs to maintain real-time visibility.
- Act as the main driver for customs clearance once cargo touches Brazilian ports, directly managing and expediting clearances involving MAPA and ANVISA to ensure rapid container release.
- Supervise external customs brokers and local service partners, driving proactive follow-ups rather than waiting for status updates to avoid costly demurrage, detention, and storage fees.
- Work closely with international trading desks in Europe, overseas sourcing teams, and domestic partners while adapting seamlessly across different business cultures and time zones.
- Coordinate with our outsourced warehouse and freight partners in Brazil to hand off cleared inventory efficiently.
Requirements & Competencies
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ocean container imports in Brazil.
- Professional Portuguese and English fluency (the recruitment process and daily international communications will be conducted in English)
- Demonstrated experience with Brazilian customs procedures and import regulations.
- Strong knowledge of MAPA and ANVISA procedures and requirements.
- Experience managing import operations through Santa Catarina and São Paulo.
- Experience working with shipping lines, customs brokers, port authorities and warehouse operators.
- Knowledge of Incoterms and international trade documentation.
- Experience with ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (F&O) is preferred.
- Ability to process and audit import documentation accurately.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to manage multiple import files simultaneously.
What We Offer
Joining Meelunie Do Brasil offers a flexible work setup built on trust, total ownership, and true operational autonomy. You will have a direct impact on building and scaling local logistics processes for a globally recognized trading entity, taking full charge of your work while gaining valuable daily exposure to dynamic, international commercial and supply chain teams.
