Senior Commodity Risk Analyst
About Hoogwegt
We are Hoogwegt. We are the world’s largest privately owned dairy ingredient provider, active in over 130 countries and managing an annual turnover of €4 billion. Operating at the heart of the global trading market, our financial, commercial, and operational success relies on smart risk management, robust credit strategies, and strong liquid capital.
When you join Hoogwegt, you enter a highly professional, international trading environment. You will be part of our Risk & Compliance team located at our modern, collaborative office in Arnhem, where your risk management expertise will directly safeguard our commercial decisions, protect margins, and support sustainable global growth across our trading activities.
About the Role
Reporting to Global Risk Manager, you will be a senior member of our second line of defense, working across physical dairy trading and the exchange-traded derivatives used to hedge it.
This is a build role as much as a monitoring role. We are strengthening our risk framework, data standards and systems. You will help shape the market risk limit structure, make positions and P&L independently verifiable across trading, risk and accounting systems, and embed the procedures that make controls sustainable. You will work closely with Commercial, Middle Office, Finance and IT. You will need to challenge constructively and escalate with evidence.
What You Will Do
- Independently monitor and review physical and derivative positions, limit utilisation, market risk metrics and daily P&L, and escalate breaches and exceptions under the risk governance framework.
- Contribute to the design, calibration and implementation of the market risk limit framework (volume, tenor, VaR, stop-loss and basis limits) for physical and paper books.
- Run and maintain VaR and stress-testing analysis, including backtesting and a regular review of model assumptions such as correlations and volatility.
- Analyse the physical-versus-paper hedge position, basis exposure and the option Greeks.
- Support counterparty exposure analysis in cooperation with the credit risk function.
- Write and maintain risk procedures, work instructions, data standards and control documentation.
- Act as a key business user in risk system development: define requirements, test and sign off changes, and support data migration and cutover.
- Build and govern interim analytical tools (Excel/VBA, Python, SQL) with version control, documentation and a clear owner.
- Support regulatory monitoring relevant to commodity derivatives, such as EMIR reporting, MiFID II ancillary activity tests and position limits.
What You Bring
- A Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance or a related field. Professional certification such as FRM, PRM or CFA is an advantage.
- 7+ years in market risk, with direct experience in physical commodity trading (dairy, agricultural or energy) alongside exchange-traded derivatives (futures and options).
- Hands-on experience with reconciling positions and P&L across systems, and with VaR methodology, backtesting and stress testing.
- Experience with an ETRM/CTRM system and an ERP environment, including taking part in implementation or testing.
- Advanced Excel and VBA, and working knowledge of Python and SQL.
- Fluent English; Dutch or another European language is an advantage.
- The confidence to hold risk boundaries under commercial pressure, using evidence and professional tact.
- A structured, self-directed way of working, and comfort building processes where they do not yet exist.
